Why is The Resurrection Important?
1Co 15:12  But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say
1Co 15:13  If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.
1Co 15:14  And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.
1Co 15:15  More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified
about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not
raised.
1Co 15:16  For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either.
1Co 15:17  And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
1Co 15:18  Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.
1Co 15:19  If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.
1Co 15:20  But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen
asleep.
1Co 15:21  For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a
man.
1Co 15:22  For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive..

The resurrection is the focal point of our faith.

Romans 4:25  Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

1 Peter 1:3  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given
us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

I want to tell you something that you already know – Moses is dead – Abraham is dead – Mohammed is
dead – Buddha is dead –all of the prophets and founders of religions are dead.  But that Jesus is alive!

Jesus didn’t stay dead.  He not only defeated the power of sin, He defeated death.  Death could not
hold Jesus.  He broke the power of death and was resurrected.

Of course, there were those who did not believe in resurrection.  Many said it was impossible for
anyone to come back from death.  But where were these people when Jesus raised Lazarus from the
dead.  And when he stopped a funeral procession to bring life back into a dead boy.  Where were they
when he brought Jairus’ daughter back to life.  I tell you, Jesus has power over death.

You see, our faith is based on the fact that He is risen.  Without that fact, we have nothing.  If Jesus
has not been raised from the dead, then He is no more than a great prophet and teacher.  But if He is
raised from the dead, then He must be much more than this.

Now here is the heart of the gospel message!  Jesus died for our sins.  He paid the penalty of sin.
Then, He broke the hold of death – he defeated death and stripped death of its power over man.  So
now, death cannot hold us.

Death came into the world through Adam when he disobeyed God.  It was punishment for that
disobedience.  But Jesus died innocently – He never sinned.  Satan had no legal grounds to kill Jesus
and death had no legal right to keep him.  He had no sin and so He did not deserve death.

Since death came into the world through Adam’s sin, death was defeated through Jesus’ innocence.
Though He died, death could not keep him, and so, he came back to life.

And since he defeated death, death has no power over us.  Of course, someday each of us will die,
because we live in a sinful world.  But death cannot keep us.  Someday, we will also rise.

1 Corinthians 6:14  By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also

The great news is that Jesus is still alive.  And because He lives, we will live.  We were created for
everlasting life and we will have it.  Jesus purchased it for us, and God will raise us up to live with Him
forever.

Not only that, but because He lives, we have a greater life than we had before.

John 10:10  The thief [devil] comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have
life, and have it to the full.

Jesus lives in us, and we have God’s life in us.
