Resurrection
1. Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have
received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed
in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins
according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1Co 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, [and] become the firstfruits of them that slept. (AV)
The gospel of Jesus Christ is not about religion. It is about life. Do you know how many times God gave
life in the Bible?
It started soon after he created the world and he took a handful of dirt and made a man and then
breathed life into him. Now, the animals were already created and they were alive, but the life he
breathed into man was different. It was real life – something more than what the animals had, because
man was made in the image of God himself.
Then when man sinned, God had said that if he sinned he would die.
Ge 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
(NIV) Ge 2:17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of
it you will surely die." (NIV)
So, when man did this, what happened? Did he die? Well, he was sent away from the presence of God,
so, yes man died. Life didn’t leave his body; it left his spirit.
But, God is a God of resurrection. He can bring to life that which is dead. If he formed the earth out of
nothing, and he formed man out of dust and breathed life into him, then he can revive that which is
dead. He can restore life and hope.

Matthew 28
1. After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to
look at the tomb.
2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the
tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5 The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was
crucified.
6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
What is our hope? Our hope is beyond this world. We preach a gospel of life – a message of hope – a
message of resurrection.
1Co 15:13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. (NIV)
1Co 15:14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. (NIV)
1Co 15:19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. (NIV)
1Co 15:20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, …
Jesus resurrected - finally, God raised Jesus himself from the dead. When he died, he died for all. He
had no sin to attain for of his own, so, he died in our place.
In the end - Death Will be Vanquished
Joh 5:28 "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his
voice (NIV)
Joh 5:29 and come out--those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will
rise to be condemned. (NIV)
Is this a new idea? No! The prophet Daniel spoke of it more than 500 years before Jesus did.
Paul said:
1Co 15:54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality,
then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory." (NIV)
1Co 15:55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"
Where did he get that idea? From Daniel chapter 12. But continues the thought with a new revelation.
1Co 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. (NIV)
1Co 15:57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (NIV)
Finally, we read in Revelation from the final scenes of history.
Revelation 21
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live
with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.
4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for
the old order of things has passed away."
5 He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down,
for these words are trustworthy and true."
6 He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is
thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.
