Healing
prospereth.” 3 John 1:2
God is in the healing business!
He who designed and assembled these bodies of ours is capable of maintaining and repairing them.
Not only is He able to do it, He is willing.
Exodus 15:26 … for I am the Lord that healeth thee.
Psalm 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Healing is provided in the atonement.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the
chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
But, does that mean physical healing as well as spiritual healing (through salvation)?
Consider Matthew 8:16-17: “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were
possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it
might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare
our sicknesses.” Jesus healed physical diseases and fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy!
This point is stated again in 1 Peter 2:24: “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree,
that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
Notice the healing ministry of Jesus.
Matthew 8:1-3 ….the healing of the leper.
Matthew 8:5-13 ….the healing of the centurion’s servant.
Matthew 8:16 ….the healing of the crowds.
Matthew 8:28-32 ….the healing of the demoniacs.
Matthew 9:2-7 ….the healing of the paralytic.
Matthew 9:20-22 ….the healing of the woman with the issue of blood.
Matthew 9:23-25 ….the healing of the ruler’s daughter.
Matthew 9:27-30 ….the healing of the blind men.
Matthew 9:32-33 ….the healing of the dumb (the demoniac who could not talk.)
Then, in Matthew 10:7-8, He commissions the disciples to do the same:
And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers,
raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
In Mark 16:17-18, He tells them:
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak
with new tongues; … they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Then in Acts 3:6-8 and all through the book of Acts, we see it taking place through His followers:
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ
of Nazareth rise up and walk. [7] And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately
his feet and ancle bones received strength. [8] And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with
them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
In James 5:14-15, instructions are given to the church in this matter:
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing
him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick …
