Adoption, Redemption, Forgiveness
Psalms 103:2  Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits—
Psalms 103:3  who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
Psalms 103:4  who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,

Eph 1:5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and
will –
6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

Adoption boasts of God's grace.  It is like God is saying, “See what I can do.  Men’s lives were a mess.  They were
unworthy and unlovable; rebellious and wicked.  Yet, I have made them my own children.  My grace can repair
the worst life.”
Job

Take note of God said about Job:  1:8 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job?
There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."  God was
boasting – “See how much Job loves me.”

God had no need of sons.  He has a dear and well beloved son in whom he is well pleased.
Those whom he adopts are unworthy of the honor. The glory of the
God’s grace is displayed in this.

The glory of God is the supreme goal of all he does. His grace is more honorable than his  power.  Power is
strength, but grace is love, and God is love.

When God adpoted you, he was saying, “I love you and I want you to be a part of my family.”  And when you
become part of his family, you are included in his inheritance.

Redemption -

7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's
grace
8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. .

We are redeemed, because our sins are not counted against us.
Men are in bondage to sin, Satan, and the law; through the grace of Christ, they are redeemed from all iniquity;
ransomed out of the hands of him that is stronger than they; and are freed from the law, its bondage, curse, and
condemnation.

The key word here is ransom.  Mankind was kidnapped in the Garden of Eden.  Satan deceived man and drew
him into sin.

When man obeyed Satan, he became Satan’s slaves.

Romans 6:12  Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
Romans 6:13  Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer
yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him
as instruments of righteousness.

Romans 6:14  For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
Romans 6:15  What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
Romans 6:16  Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves
to the one whom you obey— whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads
to righteousness?

So, when man sinned, he legally became the property of satan – a slave.
Jesus’ blood purchased your salvation.

1 Timothy 2:6  Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Isaiah 53:5  But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement
of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5  But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement
of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:6  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath
laid on him the iniquity of us all.

2 Corinthians 5:21  God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the
righteousness of God.

Jesus took all of our sin on the cross.  He died in your place.
Now that is something we all say and we all know, but do we really get it?

A father caught his son doing something wrong.  He said, “Son, there must be punishment for what you have
done.”  So the man took off his belt and the little boy bent over, ready for his spanking.  The man said, “No,
son.  You take the belt and spank me.  I will take your punishment for you this time.”

That is what God did for us.

You are worth the life and death of Jesus.

That makes you a very valuable person.  The highest price ever paid for anything was the death of God’s said,
and that price was paid for your freedom.

Forgiveness –

God said that he would ‘remember our sins no more’.

Jeremiah 31:34  No “…For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."

He delights in forgiving, but forgiveness comes at a high price.

Hebrews 9:22  In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding
of blood there is no forgiveness.

The wages of sin is death.  Jesus paid the wages of death for you and me.  He died that we might live.  His blood
was shed – just like the blood of all the animal sacrifices throughout religious history.  The animal was killed –
blood was spilled – the blood was sprinkled on the guilty to remove sin.  But Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice –
The Lamb of God.

John 1:29 … Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

This verse explains it all – Because of God’s grace, he provided a substitute to bear the punishment of our sins in
order that we might be forgiven and counted righteous before him.

Ephesians 1.7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the
riches of God's grace

Psalms 32:2  Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.

Our greatest need is forgiveness.  No one can long endure the guilt and shame of unforgiven sin.

Paul said,
Romans 7:24  O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

There was a particular punishment for murder in ancient times.  They would die the dead body to the murderer’
s back and he would have to carry the body until it rotted away.  Usually, the murderer would die from the
disease of the dead body or would collapse from the weight.

So Paul is saying, “Who will cut this dead body from me?”  He is talking about the body of sin – the sinful nature
– the guilt and shame associated with sin.

Romans 7:25  I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord….
Praise God!  We are free through Christ from the curse of sin and are free to serve the living God.
