Blessed Are The Pure In Heart
To be pure means to be without contamination – to be absolutely clean.
Paul wrote:
Titus 1:15 To the pure all things are pure, but to the corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure; their very minds
and consciences are corrupted.
He is saying that if your motives are pure, everything you do will be pure.
Let me give you some examples:
1. Barnabus
“Barnabas (which means, Son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, sold a field which belonged to
him, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But a man named Ananias with his wife Sapphira
sold a piece of property, and with his wife’s knowledge he kept back some of the proceeds, and brought only a
part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy
Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own?
And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? How is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You
have not lied to men but to God."” (Ac 4:35-5:4 RSV)
Ananias was pretending to be something he was not. Pure honesty does not give false impressions.
The Bible tells us that people love darkness because they can hide what they are doing. But we are told to live
with the lights on so we have nothing to hide.
2. Joseph
There was a man in the Bible named Joseph who lived back in the time of the Pharaohs of Egypt.
Genesis 39:7 and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, "Come to bed with me!"
Genesis 39:8 But he refused. "With me in charge," he told her, "my master does not concern himself with
anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.
Genesis 39:9 No-one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you,
because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?"
Men give into this kind of temptation every day and they justify it in a variety of ways, but it is not right. We
must be committed to do the right thing.
3. Daniel
Daniel was a Jewish prophet who lived in Babylon.
He was forced to serve the King of Babylon and was told that he could not practice his religion
But Daniel refused to compromise his religious convictions.
When men rose up against him and tried to cause him problems, they ran into a problem.
Daniel 6:4 At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his
conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he
was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.
When politicians are running for public office, their opponents always try to find some fault in them. This is
what happened with Daniel, but they could find nothing.
So, they made it against the law to pray. But Daniel continued to pray.
A few years ago, a prominent world leader was caught doing something wrong. When confronted he made this
statement. "What I do in my private life is nobody’s business but mine." He was wrong!
