| Exo 20:12 “ Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you. There are several mothers mentioned in the Bible who are worthy examples. I would like to mention just a few. Jochebed, Moses' mother - Exodus 2.3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got him a wicker basket and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile. She gave him up in order to save his life. She allowed another woman to adopt her son, name him, and provide for him. She arranged for herself to become his nurse and caregiver during his infancy. A mother's influence is vital early on. The first five years determine character. Hannah, Samuel's mother - dedicated him to God and released him to God's care. Can you release your children to God? Can you trust their lives to his hands and allow him to do what he wants with them. We have prayed for our children since they were conceived. We prayed for their spouses since they were children. We still pray for them each day. We pray for each of our grandchildren each day. We are already praying for the child our daughter is pregnant with. Eunice, Timothy's mother - she passed her faith on to Timothy. 2Ti 1:5 For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. I would like to pay tribute my mom and my mother-in-law. Mama was a good person. She took me to church as a child, but she didn't know Jesus. She only knew religion. But when I got saved my mom was the first to celebrate my conversion and the first in my family to follow me into the Christian life. A few years ago my mother that I was the best Christian she knew and she measures all other ministers by me. Now, I know my mom is biased, but can you imagine how good it feels for your mother, who knows all of your faults and failures, all your past, to place that much confidence in you. Those things need to be said. Then there is Patti's mom. I call her mom as well. Mom has prayed for me probably more anyone through years Patti and I have been married. She is without question our greatest prayer warrior. We could not have gotten through many situations without her prayers. Never underestimate the power of your prayers for your children. So, to sum it all up: Mothers – - Pray for your children - Encourage them - Teach them godly principles from the Bible, God’s Word - Dedicate then and Release them to God |
